Rancher Murray McGillivray points out aspects of his herd of Angus-Gelbvieh cross yearlings, with around 90 head in this pen on his ranch located southwest of Radville. These animals were all born last April, and he is raising them and preparing them for breeding later this year, timing it so they will give birth to their first calves next April. He believes calving in April rather than February is more productive and cost-efficient, and is much easier on the rancher and on the animal.
