This annual haunted house is not recommended for little kids, but is left up to the parents' discretion. Chris and Jamie Dewtie and friends do a fantastic job every year scaring people. Donations are greatly appreciated. All money raised will go to the New Pool Fund.
Regens Disposal came to Midale on Aug. 21, and put on a barbecue with all proceeds going to the New Pool Fund to help raise money for a new pool here in Midale. Regens also matched any donation given. Midale Oilmen's Association donated $1,000 which Regens matched. In total, $3,500 was raised for the pool fund.
The Midale Lions Club are putting on their first Santa Parade. It will take place on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. They will be going back to the rink after for hot chocolate and hot dogs and a free public skate from 1-3 p.m. The Lions will also be holding a bingo at the rink. Please consider putting in a float or any Christmas items to make the first Santa Parade a success. Please have entries in by Nov. 10 to Marilyn Gust.
Midale Co-operative Play School is having their annual Thanksgiving Day raffle for a basketful of food. Included in this basket is a turkey with all the trimmings. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and can be bought from any play school parent. Draw will take place on Oct. 4.
The hockey rink is hoping to have ice in by mid-October. The ice times have booked up quickly this year and there aren't many spots open from Monday to Thursday. The Mustangs schedule will be available shortly. Midale will have an initiation team and a novice team as well. Midale has a rec team and will be scheduling one ice time each week.
Midale and Area's annual fowl supper will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14, this year. Doors will be open from 3-7 p.m. If you are able to cook a turkey with dressing and gravy for the supper, please call Catrina Moldenhauer. The Rec Board supplies everything you will need to cook the turkey and make the dressing.
Midale Central School is asking all families to please pay their $30 yearbook fee as soon as possible. The purchase of one yearbook per family is necessary to guarantee the continuation of the yearbook at the school. Grade 10 students in Food Studies need to pay $20 as well.
Midale Central School participated in the Terry Fox Walk/Jog which was held on Thursday. Midale Credit Union supplied all the participants with a drink and snack.
Farm Credit Canada's "Drive Away Hunger!" bags will be going home with the students and families are asked to fill them up with non-perishable food items to be returned to the school by Oct. 15. From there, representatives from the FCC will pick them up and distribute the bags to a local food bank. Most needed items are: pasta and rice, canned meat and fish, canned soup, canned fruit and vegetables, flour, cereal, peanut butter, canned or powdered milk, fruit juices, beans, infant formula and baby food.
Parent drivers at Midale School are reminded that in order to drive students to extra-curricular activities, they must have $2 million vehicle insurance and a criminal record check that was done in the last five years.
Volunteers are needed once again to provide the kids with the fluoride rinse program. Parents are needed to help with this program that takes place once a week. It takes about an hour of time to volunteer and the more parents that volunteer to do it, the less times they will have to do it, as they work in a rotation.
School pictures have arrived and were sent home with the students. The deadline to return the orders is Oct. 9.
A form was to be sent home for each student for hot lunch. Please fill out and return to the school office by Oct. 2. Grade 10s and 11s participating in Work Week can return their forms on Oct. 9.
Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division announced that Home Logic will be open to all parents/guardians and students throughout the school division as of Oct. 1. Achievement marks for all subjects in Grades 10-12 and math for those in Grades 1-9 will be available from home. You will also be able to access student attendance, schedules, unofficial transcripts, assignments, and other events posted by the classroom teacher. Hand-outs will be going home with students with directions on how to access Home Logic. Directions are also available on the Midale School website by going to "About Us" and choosing "Calendar."
This year the Grade 8 PAA class is going to be setting up an indoor greenhouse in the foyer of Midale Central School. They plan to grow a variety of vegetables and herbs in the greenhouse. The Grade 8 class is excited to get started on this project, but they do need some help with the supplies for making the greenhouse. They need metal halide lights (or any lights that are used for plant growth), medium to large size pots (no larger than a foot in diameter please), stakes for the plants, old newspapers and potting soil. If anyone has these or other supplies that they can donate until the end of the semester, please call Mr. Wagner.
Midale Central School is very excited to start a SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) chapter in the school this year.They hope this will be a fun and educational experience for the students to learn and create awareness in the community. Miss Balkwill, Miss Jade, and Miss Helfrick are all volunteering their time to help get this project going.
Each Monday from 3:15 to 4 p.m. in the library, all students from Grades 1-6 are welcome to join the school's art club.
The senior girls' volleyball team will play in a tournament in Lumsden on Oct. 12-13. Their home tournament will be here on Oct. 26-27, and on Nov. 2 conference playoffs will be held in Stoughton.
Senior boys' volleyball will be running practices on Monday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. They will be hosting an exhibition match on Oct. 15 versus Gladmar. The following tournaments are scheduled so far: Oct. 12-13 in Oxbow, Midale on Oct. 20, and in Arcola on Oct. 27. Provincial playoffs will be starting the second weekend of November.
If you have any gently used or "garage sale" items that you would like to donate to Jessy Forrester-Tytlandsvik's Grade 3 and 4 class, please bring them to the school. They are having a rewards system in their classroom and the students will be able to purchase the donated items.
Midale Bethlehem's Lutheran Church will be holding Sunday School at 11 a.m. for children ages three to 12. They will sing songs, play games, crafts, listen to stories and learn about God and Jesus.
Carl Hauglum's wife, Margaret is now showing her art work in Weyburn at the Weyburn Credit Union's Art Gallery. Margaret's show is called "Good Old Days" with both oil and watercolor paintings being displayed. The "Good Old Days" is a series of 11 paintings of farms from the past. There are some harvest scenes as well as some farms and animals as well. The show will run throughout October.
Midale Skating Club held registration on Sept. 17. If you missed the meeting, please contact Michelle Kleinsasser. There are currently 24 children registered and they will skate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Midale Hockey Association did their registration and meeting on Sept. 18. The initiation Mini Mustangs will practice on Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m. and the Midale Petroleum Novice Storm will practice from 5:15-6:30 p.m. If you did not get your child registered, please call Catrina Moldenhauer and she can direct you to the right person.
The Midale 39er's Senior Club held a very successful sausage and perogie night on Sept. 25. They had 70 people attend and Valerie Penny won the door prize.
Senior's Week is Oct. 1-7. The Midale Public Library is celebrating by having guitar player and singer, Gary Sidloski, perform today, Oct. 3, from 2-4 p.m. at the Library. Please come for coffee, cake and entertainment. On Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., please come to library for a game of cards and door prizes.
Also at the library is holding a contest called "My Favourite Book Contest". Tell them in 50 words or less the title and author of your favorite book; why you like it and how it makes you feel; your full name and address; whether you are a youth (5-12), teen (13-17), or adult (18+). Midale and Area Recreation Board will be hosting their annual Christmas Craft, Trade and Bake Sale on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tables will be $20 each and call Catrina to book your table. Also this day the Midale Mini Mustangs are hosting a tournament.
