A couple of local monuments were lit up in red in honour of a special anniversary Tuesday night.

Red lights were shining on the Estevan Court House, the cenotaph and the Estevan Soldiers’ Tree monument to mark the 100th anniversary of the poppy.

On July 6, 1921, the poppy was adopted as the flower of remembrance by the Great War Veterans Association. The poppy has also been adopted by veterans groups around the world to honour those who served and their sacrifices.
