A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into by the RM of Weyburn and the City of Weyburn regarding the RM Sewage Receiving Station accessing the City Sewage Infrastructure.
The agreement was signed November 18 by RM of Weyburn Reeve Carmen Sterling and Weyburn Mayor Debra Button.
The signing of the MOU has been years in the making, and marks a new partnership between the RM and the City creating more opportunities to grow the region.
"There has been years of work behind what happened Monday," said Button. "In the past, the City of Weyburn has been reluctant to open up the lagoon to the RM of Weyburn out of concern as to what would be dumped."
The MOU will allow a RM Sewage Receiving Station to access the City sewage infrastructure and the RM will pay for all costs associated with the engineering, design, installation, operation, repair and replacement of the sewage receiving station and connecting infrastructure.
"This will be a state of the art, fully automated system linking directly into the lagoon," said Sterling, adding the RM is in the engineering stages of this project.
It is expected that this will be a mutually beneficial arrangement between municipalities opening up a sharing of services in the future.
"This is a great deal. It's good to see them work together creating more opportunities for everyone in the area," said Sereda Manager Jeff Richards.
