The MS Society of Canada issued a follow-up media release on June 2 regarding the fundraising effort in Estevan through the MS Walk on May 29.

While participants still have until June 13 to collect pledges and donations for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the provincial chapter reported the Estevan total now exceeds $11,000.

The day after the walk, Sierra Thompson of the MS Society in Saskatchewan said the 80 local registered walkers had brought in $10,000 in the form of pledges for the five kilometre walk.

Walk co-ordinator Marieke de Roos said she was pleased to report the additional $1,000 had been collected with a few days remaining before the books will be closed on the 2016 event.

The Blue Cross MS walk was successful “on so many levels,” said de Roos, who again thanked the many volunteers, City Police and Estevan Fire Safety teams who helped make the walk in the Pleasantdale neighbourhood safe and assisted with the put up and take down of furniture and equipment in the Pleasantdale School where the walkers started and finished.

Local business sponsors also contributed a lot to the success of the event, she said, including food and refreshments.
