Just the final touches remain for the new front office at Nickle Lake Regional Park, which is set to open for the season on May 16.
The 480 square foot building is complete with plumbing, air conditioning and a kitchen area for staff, said Winston Bailey, City councillor, who sits on the regional park's committee.
Construction began in October and several local contracting companies had their hand in creating the new front office: Schmeltzer Construction, Anderson Construction, Prairie Lightning, Ed Frederick's Drywall, Kell's Construction and Ed Sellers Painting.
The building has a cottage look to it as park-goers come up the drive. "This gives a better look coming into the park," said Bailey.
The park is continuing their to-do list, which includes renovations to washrooms, water maintenance as well as a full review of park expansion and what the estimated costs are for more campsites.
"We are completing road maintenance. The lane ways need patching," said Bailey.
Nickle Lake opened July 10, 1955, becoming a regional park in 1964. It is located on the shores of Nickle Lake and Souris River. The roads thread through the park to ease touring the various areas available to camp, picnic, swim or fish.
