WEYBURN – The city has awarded the King Street and Highway 35 reconstruction project to Genco Asphalt Inc. for $2,431,534, excluding taxes.

The decision was unanimously approved by council during its regular meeting on June 23.

Coun. Ryan Janke asked if the city has used Genco in the past.

Renee Cugnet, the city’s director of engineering, said that Genco completed the First Avenue reconstruction last year and they have completed lots of paying projects in the city.

“We’ve been happy with their quality of work,” she said.

Coun. John Corrigan sought clarity on the project’s timeline and how it aligns with other summer construction in the community.

Cugnet said for the King Street portion is slated for completion by Aug. 30 to avoid disruptions with school traffic, while the Highway 35 North segment is expected to wrap up by Sept. 30.
