Farmers Appreciation Night

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce's annual Farmer Appreciation Night is coming up soon on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at McKenna Hall, featuring the presentation of the Golden Sheaf Award.

The nominations are open for the Golden Sheaf until Thursday, Oct. 30, so those wanting to make a nomination are urged to get them in to the Chamber office as soon as possible.

The featured guest speaker for the evening is radio host and author John Gormley, and tickets for Chamber members are $35 each. The evening starts with cocktails at 6 p.m. with the supper at 7, and then the program to follow, starting with the presentation of the Golden Sheaf Award.

The award recognizes excellence in agricultural achievement and helps to foster rural-urban understanding and consideration. The award is based on a farmer's contribution to, and participation in, the agricultural industry and community life.

The nominee must be a farmer residing in an RM within the Weyburn surrounding region; a list of eligible RMs can be found on the Chamber website, along with a nomination form. There are five categories to be considered by the judging panel, including longevity, community involvement, professional involvement, innovation and entrepreneurship, and stewardship.

A suitable recipient will be selected from the nominees received, with the selection committee to be comprised of members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Weyburn Agricultural Society.

Last year, the recipients of the Golden Sheaf Award was the family-owned and operated Van Staveren Farms of the Creelman area.
