Some familiar Outram-Torquay faces were part of the Estevan Mermaids Synchronized Swimming Club, which excelled at the 2016 Sadie Caulder Knight provincial meet at Saskatoon's Shaw Centre last month.

Kaylee Carlson, Kristen Carlson, Kendra Cossette, Haley Copeland, Maya Daoust, Rachel Duncan, Rebecca Duncan, Hannah Mantei, Sasha Mantei, Emily Tarnes, Jordyn Tarnes, Hannah Whitman, Alandra Young and Alianna Young were among the swimmers who competed. Congratulations to them all.

The Estevan Mermaids also hosted their annual water show on April 23rd.  In addition to the swimmers listed above, participants with ties to the Outram-Torquay area included Sarah Pyra and Sierra Mantei.

The Estevan and District Music Festival was a great experience for first-timers Shaya and Keith Daae. They both played piano solos on April 8. Shaya, the daughter of Michael and Shannon Daae, played a piece called Love our Music, and Keith, son of Darwin and Cindy Daae, performed a selection called The Big Finish

Some of the piano award recipients were Jacob Pyra, Kaylee Carlson and Levi Stepp.

Congratulations to Rebecca Duncan, who placed third at the Weyburn Fiddle Festival on April 30.

Club DJ held its windup on March 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Torquay. It was an enjoyable afternoon as parents, grandparents and children celebrated the culmination of the children’s program for the season. Sixty-six people were in attendance.

The windup began with a short program in the sanctuary where the children sang songs, recited Bible verses from memory and received certificates for Bible verse memorization and work they completed.

The festivities moved into the auditorium for ice cream floats and a game involving floating rubber ducks. Club director Cindy Daae was pleased with the attendance this year. Thirty-four children attended the 21-week club on a fairly regular basis from October to March.

Club leaders were Darwin Daae for games, Sarah Peters for crafts and Shannon Daae for singing. The club’s goal is to teach children about Christianity, God and how they can live their lives for him.

A few people from the area were involved in the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup in Estevan. The Duncan children sang O Canada and Jason Leblanc ran the auction during the sponsors’ dinner on April 27. Abby Brokenshire also sang O Canada at one of the hockey games.

Sympathy is extended to the Sovdi family on the death of Alta Peterman who passed away on April 13 at the age of 95.

Happy 49th anniversary to Don and Faye Mantei.

Birthday wishes are extended to Katrina Mantei.
