Police arrest two youths on a number of charges

The two youths are charged with breaching the no contact conditions from their previous arrest.

The driver is a suspended motorist and was charged under the Traffic Safety Act. His vehicle was seized. The passenger received a charge of failing to properly wear a seat belt. The young man, while trying to avoid detection, crawled into the trunk of the car.

Both youths were released and set for a later court date.

In other recent EPS news, police are investigating a report of a theft from the 1400-block of Second Street that came in during the June 6 day shift. The complainant told police that a set of golf clubs went missing. Anyone with information is asked to call the EPS at 306-634-4767 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police are also investigating a complaint of uttering threats after a local resident came forward during the day shift.

Members performed a check stop on Fourth Avenue South near Woodlawn Regional Park during the June 6 night shift to look for possible impaired drivers. No intoxicated drivers were located.

Police were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital to assist with locating a patient who was leaving against the doctor’s orders. He returned to the hospital with the help of medical staff before police arrived.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old youth for breaching a release condition. He had threatened to harm himself, so he was transported and assessed at the hospital. He was later released into the custody of his mother.

Police received a report of a stabbing incident in the city’s core in the early hours of June 7. The individual was admitted to the hospital for supervision. The matter is still under investigation, and no further details are available.

Members received a call about a driver who ignored the barricades on Kensington Avenue North during the June 7 day shift. A license plate number was obtained. The incident is under investigation, and charges are pending under the Traffic Safety Act.

Police were called to the landfill for a report of a man who was trespassing. The man was located and spoken to about his actions. He co-operated with police officers and was warned that he should have reported to the main gate. Also, the property he took from the landfill was returned to the City of Estevan. He was warned of his actions.

Members received a report of an impaired driver in south Estevan during the June 7 night shift. The vehicle was located in a residential area. Police were able to identify the driver from the description provided by the complainant. A 50-year-old male was arrested and has been charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08 and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police received several calls about erratic drivers in various parts of the city during the June 8 day shift. Police responded but were unable to find the offending vehicles, but they did issue numerous tickets for offences under the Traffic Safety Act.

Members also received numerous calls regarding the scam involving somebody pretending to be with the Canada Revenue Agency. Residents are reminded not to give out personal information or to send money. Further information can be obtained on the Canada Revenue Agency website.

Police arrested an Estevan man for assault during the June 8 night shift. He was found to be on probation and was also charged for breaching those conditions. He was released for court and is not to have contact with the victim.

Members were called to the No Frills parking lot during the June 9 day shift for a multiple vehicle accident. Police learned that the offending driver accidentally reversed into another parked vehicle, which in turn hit another parked vehicle. Damage to the vehicles is in the $7,500 range. The driver was charged with unsafe driving under the Traffic Safety Act.

Officers also received a report of a suspicious vehicle at a business in the downtown area. Police attended but the vehicle had left the scene before police arrived. Through an investigation, a vehicle description and driver description were obtained and an alert was issued for the vehicle. It was subsequently located in Weyburn by the Weyburn Police Service. The vehicle had been reported as stolen out from Manitoba and some stolen goods were located in the vehicle. A female from Manitoba was arrested and the matter is under investigation.

Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line during the June 9 night shift. The vehicle was located a short distance away and the driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested. He is facing charges of impaired driving and driving over .08, and was lodged until sober. His female passenger was less than co-operative when police tried to arrange for a safe way home for her. She was arrested and lodged until she was sober.

Members responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 18 and Highway 47 South during the June 10 day shift. One vehicle was towed from the scene, and there were no injuries. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers attended to a complaint that the odour of marijuana was emanating from a residence. The matter is still being looked into.

Police are investigating a theft of a license plate from a business.

Police attended to several noise complaints throughout the city during the June 10 night shift. Police warned the owners, and at one residence it was learned that the occupants were setting off fireworks.

Police had several reports of impaired drivers. Vehicles were checked and no one was found to be impaired. Warnings were issued to several drivers and other motorists were charged with Traffic Safety Act offences.

Police received a call about a possible impaired driver during the June 11 night shift. Police went to the area and located the vehicle parked in front of an apartment building, but were unable to find the driver.

Police then received a call about a possible fight at the skate park. Police attended and nobody was there. The matter is under investigation.

Police got a call about some unruly patrons at a local drinking establishment. Police arrived on the scene to learn that the parties in question were separated and were not causing any further issues. No further police action was required.

Members are investigating a complaint of a fraud that came in during the June 12 day shift. A male deposited an empty envelope into an ATM and then withdrew money. Charges of fraud and breaching release conditions are pending against an 18-year-old Estevan male.

Officers conducted a check stop for impaired drivers during the afternoon hours. Over 40 vehicles were checked in a 40-minute span. One ticket was issued for an offence under the Traffic Safety Act, but no impaired drivers were located. Another check stop was performed that night on 13th Avenue. Once again, no impaired drivers were found.
