One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries following an accident on the morning of Nov. 19.
Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS), the Estevan Fire and Rescue Service and EMS were dispatched to the accident, which happened at the intersection of Kensington Avenue, Nesbitt Drive and Rooney Road. One person was extracted from a vehicle and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries.
Charges are pending under the Traffic Safety Act against one of the motorists.
In other recent calls, members responded to a complaint of several youths causing a disturbance at the Estevan Shoppers Mall during the Nov. 18 day shift. The youths were gone on arrival, but the matter remains under investigation.
Officers were also called to multiple hit and run complaints throughout the city. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating those responsible for these incidents.
Police assisted fire crews with blocking access to the intersection of Sixth Street and Ninth Avenue, after a power pole was located almost falling over.
Members then responded to a complaint of a person uttering threats on Valley Street. The matter is still under investigation.
Members assisted EMS with an elderly male suffering from dementia who had been aggressive with family members during the Nov. 19 day shift. The matter was resolved peacefully.
Police responded to a fire alarm on Dufferin Avenue. The matter is under investigation and a charge of public mischief is being considered, as this is the second incident at the same location in a short period of time.
Officers were called to several more hit and run collisions throughout the city. They are being investigated.
A 25-year-old female and a 26-year-old male were arrested on outstanding warrants, stemming from a traffic stop during the Nov. 20 day shift. Police also located a small amount of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. The 26-year-old male was charged with possession of marijuana and breaching conditions. Both were released and will make court appearance in January 2016.
Talan Franko was sentenced for five counts of failing to appear in court, one count of breaching his probation and one count of theft under $5,000. Franko was ordered to pay more than $2,500 in fines for the offences.
Officers responded to two elderly persons wandering away from Hillview Manor during the Nov. 20 night shift. Members were able to bring them towards a patrol vehicle, where they were transported back to the building. Both were under-dressed for the temperatures.
Members also responded to a pair of harassment complaints. In the first instance, the subject was located and spoken to. In the second, the subject was warned of his actions and that he would be charged if he continued.
A 31-year-old Estevan resident was issued a 72-hour driving suspension and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possessing the weapon while prohibited by a court order.
Members responded to a barking dog complaint in the 600 block of Albert Street. The home owner was warned of the bylaw.
Police received a report of an attempted break-and-enter at a residence in the downtown core during the Nov. 21 day shift. The matter is still under investigation
Police arrested a 21-year-old male who was intoxicated and causing a disturbance in northeast Estevan. He was making obscene gestures at passing motorists when police found him. He was held in cells until sober.
Later in the afternoon, police were called to a residence regarding a domestic dispute. No violence occurred. The instigating party left the residence and moved out.
Police then responded to a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line of a possible impaired driver. Police located the motorist and found he had consumed alcohol but was below the legal limit.
Impaired driving was the main focus of many traffic stops during the Nov. 21 night shift, but nobody was arrested for impaired driving. Designated drivers and taxis were used during the night. Traffic stops resulted in charges for disobeying a red light, failing to obey a stop sign, driving without a valid license and unlawfully having window tint under the Traffic Safety Act.
Members were called to a central Estevan location on the report of a domestic dispute in progress. The situation was defused upon police arrival without further incident.
Police received a report of a fuel theft early during the Nov. 22 day shift. A licence plate number was provided to police, who located the suspect and the matter was resolved. The driver thought he had paid at the pump but the transaction did not go through.
A vehicle lost its slip tank at the corner of 13th Avenue and Fourth Street. It caused some traffic issues until the owner was able to get a skidsteer to move the slip tank off the road. The driver was charged for having an insecure load.
Police received two calls about the elevator inside Affinity Place. The first call was an open emergency line, but there wasn’t an emergency. The second was from a person who was inside the elevator, which was stuck. Estevan Fire and Rescue were dispatched as well, and they were able to free the person from the elevator.
Members were dispatched to Albert Street during the Nov. 22 night shift and located a male who had been expressing suicidal thoughts to a friend. The male agreed to go a friend’s home for the remainder of the night. Officers dealt with him again later in the night.
Kenneth Marshall, 23, of Estevan was arrested on outstanding warrants. He was lodged in cells to be taken before a judge the next morning.
Police responded to a break and enter at a local business. The matter is still under investigation and the EPS is asking for the public’s assistance if they have any knowledge of the incident.
