Police charge youths for mischief on Oil Show grounds

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint that some young males were running around the exhibition grounds causing a disturbance on Saturday, and that two of the youths had thrown rocks at some of the equipment being set up for the Oil Show causing damage. Based on the description provided by witnesses, police were later able to locate the youths in the area. Two of the youths were arrested and charged as young offenders with mischief and later released on conditions, and will appear in court at a later date.
The Weyburn Police Service continues to receive reports that the Canada Revenue Agency fraud calls are again targeting Weyburn residents. Police want to remind residents to not give callers any information, as CRA do not ask for personal information on either the phone or email. It is advisable to hang up and report to the police.
City police received a complaint of a fraud on Friday. The complainant had bought an animal from an individual from outside of Canada. After paying for the animal, the victim did not receive the animal in return. The investigation is ongoing.
Weyburn Police responded to a domestic dispute in the south end of the city on May 28. Upon arrival police found an intoxicated female yelling and breaking items outside the residence. A 21-year-old female was arrested for being drunk in public and placed in cells, and was released when sober with no other charges laid.
City police responded to a domestic dispute in the central part of the city on May 28, and upon arrival it was determined that an adult male had assaulted both his wife and child. A 53-year-old male was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, and was later released with conditions of no contact with the victims and he will attend court at a later date.
Weyburn police received a complaint on May 28 of quads being driven through city property, which had just been seeded. A short time later police located two individuals driving quads. The drivers were young offenders and they were charged under the City of Weyburn bylaw. The quads were later loaded onto a trailer and taken home by the owners. Police want to remind residents that it is a violation of City bylaws to ride quads or dirt bikes on city streets or property; they need to be hauled out of Weyburn for use.
The Weyburn Police Service received a request from RCMP on May 30 to check a curfew on a male youth who was residing in the City of Weyburn and who had been charged by the RCMP and later released from custody and placed on conditions. Members of the city police performed a curfew check and found he was not at the residence as per his release conditions. The young offender was later located and charged with breaching his conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
Weyburn police responded to a report of a disturbance in a public area on Wednesday. Upon locating the disturbance it was found to be a loud domestic dispute between an adult male and female. Police members assisted with calming the situation down. No charges were laid.
Weyburn police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance in downtown Weyburn on Friday. Police found an intoxicated male and he was arrested for being drunk in public. When searched, the male was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine. The 35-year-old male was placed in cells until sober, and was also charged for possession of cocaine and released for court at a later date.
The Weyburn Police Service thanked everyone who attended the open house held on Friday and Saturday and helped the police department to celebrate their 60th anniversary of serving this great community. There were over 1,500 people who spent time interacting with officers and staff while viewing equipment, looking at photos, or having a tour of the Police Service building.
