Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of May 21 to 27:
During the reporting period, police dealt with 108 calls for service. Many of them were alcohol related. Officers were called to several false alarms and disturbances.
*On May 27, police stopped and suspended a male driver from driving his vehicle because of alcohol consumption.
*Police responded to a report of a possible breaking and entering at a south hill apartment building. The investigation determined that it was actually just a house pet that knocked over a lamp.
*Police were called to a disturbance at a local bar, but one of the parties and had already left prior to police arrival.
*Police received a report of gunshots in the area of Dieppe Drive and Eaglesham Avenue. After extensive patrol of the area, the source could not be found. Fireworks may have been the cause. Residents are reminded that the lighting of fireworks in the City is an offence under local bylaw.
*On May 26, police investigated the Bison Avenue area after receiving a report of a male going through vehicles. Police attended the area and did not find the suspects. Residents are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to make sure and lock their doors.
*Police were called to a disturbance in a local downtown bar and the matter was resolved without incident.
*Police were called to a domestic disturbance on the east side of the city and the matter was resolved without incident.
*On May 25, police were called to investigate a minor fire on south hill. The investigation revealed that some wood had been burned but the fire was minor, with no real damage. The matter is under investigation.
*Police were called to the area of the Inland Terminal, East of Weyburn on Highway 39. Two males dressed in dark clothing were walking near the highway, making it difficult for vehicles to see them. Two 14 year old males were turned over to their parents.
*On May 24, police were made aware of a suspicious male who had been hanging around a local child activity center. The individual, who was not there at the time it was being reported, was described to the police. Police have not identified the individual and have asked the people to call the next time he shows up in the area so the individual's identity can be determined.
*Police were called to investigate a fraud where a local resident had advertised her vehicle for sale on the internet. The buyer allegedly paid with an NSF cheque that was more than the advertised amount and the balance was sent back to the buyer. The matter is under investigation.
*On May 23, police attended a local residence in regard to a noise complaint. The apartment occupant was made aware of the complaint and agreed to keep the noise down. As a result, the matter was resolved with a warning.
*Police were called to a local hotel and requested to remove a patron who made other customers feel threatened. The man left with the police without incident.
*Police were called to a residence in the east part of the city. The caller requested police assist with removing an intoxicated female from the residence. The female was taken home without incident.
*Police were called to a noise complaint at an apartment, but the noise had subsided upon police arrival. The homeowner was warned of the complaint.
*Officers attended Assiniboia Park School to present the annual bicycle roadeo. Children from the school were instructed in the safe handling of a bicycle. The bicycle roadeo is an annual spring event put on at all of the elementary schools.
*Police were made aware of a situation alleging child abuse. The individuals and situation occurred in another jurisdiction. Police assisted by contacting the police responsible for the jurisdiction to initiate an investigation into the allegations of assault. The matter is under investigation.
*On May 22, police were called to a local service station to investigate a report of damage to a vehicle, which had been parked on the lot for some time. It was determined that the parked vehicle had its windshield smashed and the matter is under investigation.
*Police were called to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles on Third Street. Damage was extensive, resulting in both vehicles needing to be towed. There were no injuries reported by any of the occupants. One driver was charged for driving without due care and attention as a result of his driving action.
*While doing a foot patrol though a local bar, police were alerted to two males who had been acting strangely in the lounge. The males, both in their forties, left the bar without incident.
*Police were called to a local business parking lot, where a vehicle collided into a second vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, who was an elderly gentleman, parked and had gone into the store. Police located both vehicles and their respective drivers. The matter was sorted out and the individuals exchanged names and were directed to report the matter to insurance.
*On May 21, officers were called to a store in the northwest section of the city, to a report of an intoxicated male bothering customers by asking for a rides. Patrol members attended , but the male individual had departed the area. After a search of the area, police were unable to locate the man.
*Police were called to the Tatagwa View area to a report of a male shooting a rifle. The person was found, but was discovered to be a licensed individual hired to dispose of nuisance animals and rodents in the area.
*Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence in the central area of the city. A male and female were having a dispute that resulted in some property damage. The male, who was responsible for damaging his own property, agreed to leave the residence. After the two individuals went separate ways, the matter was resolved without further incident.
*Also on May 21, at 4:23 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m., police received reports of excessive noise in the city in the Fifth Street and Park Avenue area. In both cases, which were two separate residences, individuals had been playing their music too loud and making too much noise. Warnings were given to keep the noise down so as not to disturb the neighbors. In both cases, the individuals complied and police were not called back.
*Police were called to a motor vehicle accident on Saskatchewan Drive. A vehicle had lost control and struck a curb. The vehicle had to be towed from the area. No injuries were reported.
