The Estevan Police Service (EPS) dealt with curfew checks, harassment complaints, hit-and-run incidents and intoxicated individuals during the first few days of December.
Members conducted multiple curfew checks on individuals with court-ordered conditions during the Dec. 1 night shift. A 22-year-old Estevan man was not at home, and was charged with breaching the conditions of his release order.
Officers then responded to a domestic dispute in the city’s core area. One individual was transported to a safe location for the evening and the matter remains under investigation.
Members were called to a burglar alarm at a local business. The door was open but nothing was missing. Nothing suspicious was seen, either, and the matter is concluded pending further information.
Police were called to a northeast residence for a report of a domestic disturbance during the Dec. 2 night shift. Officers spoke to a woman, who advised a man had left prior to police arrival. The matter remains under investigation.
Members then responded to a downtown residence to check on a man, to see if he was in compliance with conditions that he agreed to follow, stemming from a previous release from custody. He was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was arrested, and held in custody to appear before a provincial court judge on Dec. 3. He faces charges of breaching his probation, breaching his undertaking and possessing a controlled substance.
Police received a call about a possible impaired driver leaving a local establishment. The vehicle was located and the driver was checked with a roadside device. He passed the test and was sent on his way.
Officers received a couple of harassment complaints. One was dealt with very quickly but the other has been ongoing since September. Police are interviewing some additional witnesses in the case and have lumped all five occurrences together. The cases are primarily harassment complaints, but one involves the suspect publishing defamatory libel known to be false. Police continue to investigate and additional witnesses are scheduled to speak to police.
Members received a report of a hit-and-run during the Dec. 3 night shift. The offending vehicle was located a short time later and a short distance from the collision scene. The driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to report damage to the owner.
Officers had a call about an erratic driver. Statements were obtained and the driver of the offending vehicle was located and charged under the Traffic Safety Act.
Police stopped an Alberta driver, and he was given a three-day driving suspension after providing breath samples and having a result over .04.
Officers were called to a mobile home park during the Dec. 4 night shift, due to a dispute involving wages and rent. Police mediated a resolution for the evening. A further investigation into a possible theft or possession of stolen property will follow.
Police were called to a liquor establishment for a report of a fight in a lobby. Members attended and arrested a number of people. None of the individuals involved wanted to pursue assault charges. The parties were sent on their way for the evening.
Officers were then dispatched to a local fast food establishment for a mischief complaint. The front window of the business was broken. Members located the individual responsible several blocks away. He was arrested and treated for cuts to his hands by EMS, and was lodged in cells to be released on charges for willful damage. He will appear in court in February.
Police received a report of a man banging his head on a power pole, while singing and yelling to himself. He was arrested and lodged in cells until sober to ensure he was supervised for his own safety.
Members arrested another male in his mid-twenties for public intoxication, after he was located passed out in a business entrance. He was released when sober.
Police arrested a suicidal male who was intoxicated and running in traffic. He was lodged in cells, to be released after being assessed by medical personnel.
Officers are investigating a theft of wire from the Tedford Way area late last week. Anyone with information is asked to call the EPS at 306-634-4767 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Police received a complaint of a male being criminally harassed by a co-worker during the Dec. 7 day shift. The matter is still under investigation.
Members are looking into a fraud involving a rental property in the downtown area. An investigation is ongoing.
Police are investigating a complaint of uttering threats and possibly resisting arrest after an incident at the court house.
Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the Willow Park Greens area. An investigation is ongoing.
Police responded to a complaint of child abuse. The matter is being looked into by EPS, the Ministry of Social Services and the child’s school.
