Members of the Estevan Police Service have apprehended motorists impaired by alcohol and marijuana in recent days.
A traffic stop was made in west central Estevan on July 5 that resulted in a 24-year-old Estevan man having his driver’s licence suspended and vehicle impounded after a warning reading on a roadside screening device for alcohol. As it was his third offence, his licence was suspended for 90 days and his was vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Police received a report of an attempt fraud on July 6. The victim received notification of winning $3.8 million from Reader’s Digest. The victim was informed it was necessary to send a deposit cheque of $24,000 to receive the prize money. No cheque was sent. Police remind the public that it isn’t necessary to pay a deposit to receive winnings. If someone is asking for a deposit it is a scam. Do not give them any information or respond to them.
Members received a report of a person in a minivan trying to sell home theater equipment in parking lots of local businesses. The vehicle was located and the individual identified. The individual was warned of the necessity of obtaining a city business licence and the obligations under the Direct Sellers Act. Police encourage the public to report any similar circumstances.
Police were dispatched to a north central Estevan convenience store on the report of a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, members utilized a roadside screening device for detecting marijuana which resulted in a positive reading. The driver was transported to hospital for further testing and then transported to the police station, where he was lodged in cells until sober. Impaired driving charges are pending.
A traffic stop in central Estevan resulted in a 19-year-old Estevan man having his Novice 2 driver’s licence suspended for 60 days and his vehicle impounded for three days following a positive roadside screening test for marijuana.
