Police investigate assault reports

The Weyburn Police Service received a report of an assault with a weapon on Thursday. The subsequent investigation determined the victim was a 45-year-old male who had been assaulted and threatened.

The Weyburn Police Service received a report of an assault with a weapon on Thursday. The subsequent investigation determined the victim was a 45-year-old male who had been assaulted and threatened. Police later located the suspect, a 43-year-old male, who was arrested without incident and charged with assault causing bodily harm and threatening. The accused was released from custody to appear in court in October.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a theft from a local business on Friday, after a male had entered the store asking for cigarettes. The male had made an attempt to pay for the cigarettes with some form of card before grabbing the bag and fleeing without paying. The male suspect was captured on the security camera and the photo has been uploaded to the WPS web site. Police are asking for public assistance in identifying this individual.
The Weyburn Police Service was dispatched to a reported break-and-enter of a business situated in the South Hill area on Aug. 29. Entrance had been gained through a window and the offices gone through. Nothing was reported missing though the office did sustain damage. The incident remains under investigation.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a fraud on Friday where an attempt was made to have investments transferred from one account to another through an email request. The scheme was discovered when one of the parties took the time to confirm that this was a legitimate request. As a result no money was lost. Police are again reminding everyone not to strictly act on email or phone requests even if they sound legitimate, and to never share personal information over the phone or through email to someone you do not know.
In the early morning hours a member of the Weyburn Police Service while on patrol observed a group of youth in Jubilee Park on Aug. 30. When the member approached the group, one of the group fled on foot while the remaining individuals were stopped by police. The investigation resulted in a 16-year-old youth being charged with possession of marijuana and having open liquor in public. The youth was later released into the custody of the parent. The accused will be appearing in court at a later date. The matter remains under investigation.
A member of the Weyburn Police Service observed a vehicle fail to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Ninth Street and Bison Avenue on Aug. 30. Police attempted to stop the vehicle by activating the emergency equipment at which time the driver accelerated and fled from police. The officer pursued the vehicle for a short distance before discontinuing the pursuit as the driving actions of the pursued vehicle were erratic and cause for concerns of others safety. A short time later police received a report of an accident where a vehicle had hit a parked car. Police responded and found it to be the vehicle that had earlier fled from police, the driver, a 58-year-old male, was arrested at the scene. The investigation determined he was impaired and prohibited from driving. The accused was charged with impaired drive, driving while over .08, driving while prohibited and evading police. The accused was later released from custody for court at a later date.
While on patrol on Aug. 27, a member of the WPS conducted a vehicle stop and found the driver, a 40-year-old male, to have been driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently given a 72-hour suspension from driving and his vehicle was seized.

The subsequent investigation resulted in the 42-year-old male being charged with driving while over .08 and impaired driving. The accused was released from custody to appear in court later in October.
The Weyburn Police Service received a call of a truck driving dangerously in the east area of the city on Aug. 28. Police later found the truck abandoned and through the investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening from a residence in the north end of the city. The owner of the vehicle had left their keys in the vehicle. No suspects have been identified at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
As a result of a curfew check on Aug. 28 police learned a male, who was released from custody on earlier charges, was not home. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old male who was charged with two counts of breach of undertaking. Subsequent investigation also determined the accused was also in possession of stolen property, which had been stolen in July from a truck parked in Weyburn. The accused was further charged with two counts of stolen property. The accused was remanded in custody and appeared in court on Sept. 5.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a theft from vehicle on Saturday, after a passing motorist noticed a car with its doors open and items on the ground and called police. Police located the owner and determined that a few CDs and other items had been stolen from the unlocked vehicle.
September 2nd – City police were called to a report of an assault with a weapon after a 45-year-old female was assaulted by a 61-year-old male on Saturday. The victim suffered minor injuries. The investigation has resulted in the male being charged with assault with a weapon and he will be appearing in court at a later date.
