Weyburn police are investigating the attempted theft of a number of tools from a business in the 100 block of Government Road on Thursday. The suspect is described as male in his mid 30’s with a slender build, wearing a blue zip-up jacket, sunglasses and jeans. The suspect vehicle he made a get-away in is believed to be a newer model four-door silver sedan with tint in the rear windows. • Weyburn police received numerous complaints from area residents regarding a vehicle being driven very erratically and doing mischief to newly planted grass on May 16. The vehicle was located and as a result of the investigation the following charges were laid.
A 22-year-old female driver was charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08, driving while disqualified (this person had only recently been convicted of another over .08 offence), and obstruction of a peace officer, and a 29-year-old female was charged with obstruction of a peace officer. The vehicle was impounded and both accused will be making a court appearance in the future.
• Police received numerous calls this week regarding possible scam telephone calls relating to the STARS Lottery. While police believe these to be scam calls, residents should verify with someone the legitimacy of the call before giving out any personal or financial information.
• Weyburn police received a report of a 35-year-old woman having been assaulted by an employee at a business on Saturday. The matter is still under investigation.
• City police received a report of a vehicle having been damaged over the weekend. It appears that perhaps a window was shot out with a pellet gun.
• Weyburn police are investigating a report of mischief caused to personal property relating to a domestic split-up on May 15.
• City police were called to a local health care facility regarding damage that had been done by a patient on May 16. The patient has been charged with committing mischief and will be making a court appearance.
• Weyburn police received a report of a possible intoxicated driver at about 3:05 p.m. on May 16. A 70-year-old driver was located and a 72-hour licence suspension was issued.
• Police received a call to a local bar to deal with an unruly patron at about 6:10 pm. on May 16. A 32-year-old male was escorted from the property and is prohibited from attending the bar.
• City police received a call about suspicious pedestrians in the 300 block of Fourth Street at about 2:15 a.m. on Friday. A group of youth were located but it is unknown at this time if any of them were involved. As a result of the police interaction with this group, a 16-year-old male was arrested for being intoxicated in public and lodged in cells until sober.
• Weyburn police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the 400 block of Edward Street at about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday. Upon attending they located the vehicle and a 58-year-old male driver. The driver was taken into custody for impaired care and control of a vehicle and is now facing charges, and will be appearing in court.
• City police received a report from a liquor sales outlet that a person had attempted to use false identification at about 10:35 p.m. on Sunday. The suspect was located. A 16-year-old male was charged under the Alcohol, Gaming and Regulation Act.
• Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by a 17-year-old male at about 2:50 a.m. on Monday. Although the driver was not driving under the influence of alcohol, it was believed he was driving under the influence of drugs. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted and as a result, a 60-day driving suspension and three-day vehicle impoundment was rendered against him.
• City police received a report of a vehicle having had the window smashed out and some property taken on Monday. The vehicle was parked over the weekend in the 600 block of Bison Avenue. Weyburn police responded to a report of a domestic assault in progress between a 24-year-old female victim and a 27-year-old male at about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The matter is still under investigation.
• Weyburn RCMP and emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Friday evening on Highway 39, about three km northwest of Weyburn.
A GMC 3/4 ton pickup with one occupant travelling southeast collided with a Chevrolet Cruze with two occupants travelling northwest. The STARS ambulance transported the driver of the Cruze.
Weyburn RCMP had Highway 39 blocked for about two and a half hours while emergency services were on the scene of the collision.
