Police received numerous complaints of a scam call on Thursday, in which an individual called claiming to be the president of Reader’s Digest and tells the person they just won a large sum of money, and all you need to do is pay a fee to claim such reward. Callers realized this was a scam and informed police. No money was reported as being lost.
• City police received numerous complaints from individuals who were receiving scam phone calls on Feb. 6. The caller said they were calling from STARS lottery and they had won a truck, and they needed to pay some money to receive such prize. All complainants knew it to be a scam and did not lose any money.
• Police were called and attended to a local medical facility to assist with dealing with an aggressive individual on Feb. 6. Upon arrival by the police, the individual cooperated and the situation was resolved with no charges.
• Police received a RID (Report Impaired Driver) complaint of a possible impaired driver around 16th Street on Saturday. Police found the suspect vehicle on Highway 39. The driver was found to be impaired and was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired driving and over .08. The driver was later released from custody for a court date in March.
The Weyburn Police Service would like to encourage members of the public to call in anytime you suspect a driver may be impaired. Ensuring the safety on our roads and highways requires everyone to be involved.
• City police received a complaint of an adult male taking a vehicle without owner’s consent on Sunday. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
• Police conducted a traffic stop in the central area of the city in the early evening hours of Feb. 6, and police found a 22-year-old female driver to be displaying signs of intoxication. The driver was arrested and after investigation, the driver was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. She was released from custody to appear for court in March.
• Police responded to an accident at Souris Avenue and Government Road on Feb. 7. A vehicle attempting to slow at the intersection slid through and struck the traffic light knocking it over. The driver charged with too fast for road conditions, and there were no injuries.
• Police responded to an accident on Railway Avenue on Feb. 7, after one vehicle pulled out in front of another and it was struck. There were no injuries but damage to the vehicles was extensive. The one driver was charged with driving without due care and attention. One vehicle needed to be towed from the scene.
• City police responded to an accident at 16th Street and East Avenue on Wednesday. The vehicle being driven on East Avenue had left the stop sign before it was safe to do so and was struck by the vehicle traveling south on 16th Street. The one driver was charged with proceeding from a stop sign before it was safe to do so. There were no injuries.
• Police responded to a disturbance in a residence on Thursday. Upon arrival police found the occupants having a very loud disagreement. Police mediated the situation and a warning was given about the noise. No charges were laid.
