Police investigate incidents of thefts

The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a theft of an I-phone from Tim Horton's after the victim had set it down and left it unattended on Sept. 28. A suspect, described as a male, black, medium build, short black hair, wearing a white T-shirt and striped shirt was observed leaving shortly after. Police are asking for public assistance in identifying this individual. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Police responded to a robbery at the Shell service station on Government Road South on Sept. 28 around 9:15 p.m. A male brandishing a knife walked in and demanded cash. The suspect was wearing a blue bunnyhug with BCHS in white lettering on the front.

He was also wearing a mask and gloves. The suspect fled with a small amount of cash. The incident remains under investigation.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of a theft from a vehicle on Oct. 3. The complainant had parked his work truck near a local hotel and overnight the tailgate of his white 2012 F250 Ford truck had been removed. The incident remains under investigation.

Police received a tip that a male who was a suspect in a string of recent indecent acts was seen in the area of Wal-Mart on Sept. 30.

Members of the police service attended and located the suspect and after a brief struggle the 49-year-old male was arrested and transported to cells. The suspect was charged with three counts of indecent acts and held for court on Thursday; he was subsequently remanded in custody and will appear in court later this month.

Members of the Weyburn Police Service responded to a downtown business on Sept. 29 after an altercation between a customer and a store employee. Police arrested a 46-year-old male and charged him with assault and uttering threats. The male was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

The police received a complaint of an accident at the intersection of Highway 39 and Third Street on Oct. 2. The accident occurred after an I-beam fell out of the back of a truck and another vehicle hit the debris on the road. The accident resulted in minor injuries to the other driver. The subsequent investigation located the driver of the truck, a 23-year-old male, who was charged with driving a vehicle with an insecure load.

On Oct. 4, the city police conducted a vehicle stop and found the driver, a 57-year-old male had outstanding warrants for his arrest from Estevan. The male was transported to cells where he was later released for court in November in Estevan.

Police attended to an accident on Highway 39 near the Third Street intersection on Oct. 4. A semi tractor pulling a flat deck with steel plating which may have been improperly loaded broke. Police directed traffic while the load was transferred to another unit. No injuries occurred and no charges will be laid.

Police responded to the King George Hotel after receiving reports of an intoxicated male in the parking lot on Sept. 28. Police located a 24-year-old male who was arrested for being intoxicated in public.

He was lodged in cells for his safety and released the following morning when sober.
