Police investigating thefts, collisions

City police received a call from a downtown business owner who had apprehended a shoplifter in progress on Wednesday. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male has been charged with theft under $5,000 and will be making a court appearance.

Weyburn police received a report of a theft of merchandise from a downtown business on Oct. 16. Upon review of the security footage, a 37-year-old male and 37-year-old female were identified and have each since been charged with theft under $5,000, and will be making a court appearance.
Weyburn police were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 39 and Queen Street at about 12:25 p.m. on Oct. 16. Upon investigation it was determined that a vehicle travelling south on Queen Street left the stop sign before it was safe, resulting in a collision with a vehicle on Highway 39. A 44-year-old female was issued a ticket for leaving the stop sign before it was safe to do so. There were no injuries.
City police received a call regarding a hit-and-run vehicle and bicycle collision on Second Avenue NW near King Street at about 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 16. The investigation determined that an 18-year-old male was riding his bicycle across the crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle described as a black newer model pickup truck with a grey chrome push bar, ball hitch on the bumper, and a large decal in the rear window.

Weyburn police received a report on Oct. 17 that the previous evening someone rang a doorbell then ran away. The investigation identified a 16-year-old male youth and four other youth were involved. The youth was dealt with through informal mediation. In the proper circumstances this simple childish act could amount to a criminal charge of mischief and/or trespassing on private property.
A member of the Weyburn police’s CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle found to be driving without headlights on Friday at about 8:15 p.m. As a result of the stop, a 29-year-old female driver was arrested for driving over .08 and has been charged accordingly. The vehicle was impounded and the accused was issued an indefinite licence suspension.
While on patrol, a member of the Weyburn PS CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving at a fast rate of speed at about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday. As a result of the stop, a 26-year-old male driver was arrested and has been charged with driving over .08. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued an indefinite licence suspension.
Weyburn RCMP responded to an alarm at a business on Main Street in Midale on Oct. 19 at 2:45 a.m. It was subsequently confirmed that this business had been broken into and a theft had occurred.
Among the items stolen were beer and cigarettes. The investigation into the crime is ongoing.
