Police look into thefts

Police received a complaint of a theft from a downtown business on Wednesday. Members of the Weyburn police attended and a 31-year-old male was arrested. The investigation determined the accused had been involved in previous thefts from the same location. As a result the accused was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. He was released from custody and will appear in court next month.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of a theft from a motor vehicle on Sept. 14. The vehicle was parked on the driveway when the owner observed some individuals near the vehicle. The individuals were scared off, but when the owner later checked their vehicle they found that numerous items including a wallet and cash had been stolen. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Police Service received a complaint of two children who were not being properly cared for on Sept. 14. The Weyburn Police Service as well as Social Services attended and two children were apprehended. The investigation with the assistance of the Regina Children's Justice Center is continuing.

Police received a complaint of a dog running at large who had attacked another dog which was being walked by the owner on Sept. 15. The dog was not injured and the investigation into identifying the owner of the other dog is ongoing.

Members of the Weyburn Police Service, while on patrol, observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on Sept. 16. The vehicle was stopped and the driver showed signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation the driver, a 44-year-old male, was charged with impaired driving and exceeding .08. The accused was released and will appear in court next month.

Police received a complaint of a mischief on Sept. 16 after the owner of the vehicle reported the windshield of their vehicle had been smashed.

Police received a mischief complaint, after getting a call of four individuals attempting to open the doors of parked cars on Thursday. Police attended to the area and located the four individuals. Police charged two individuals, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old male with tampering with a vehicle without the owner's consent. The investigation into this mischief and other possibly related incidents continues.

The city police received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Friday. The vehicle had been parked in the south end of the city and had been entered overnight, and a wallet and cash stolen. The incident remains under investigation.

Police attended to a three-vehicle motor vehicle accident at First Avenue NW and Government Road on Friday. The accident occurred after one vehicle rear-ended another vehicle which had stopped in traffic. The accident then pushed one vehicle forward into another vehicle. The one driver, a 16-year-old male was charged with following too close.

While on patrol on Friday, police observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. The vehicle was stopped and it was found the driver was disqualified from driving. The vehicle was seized and the 25-year-old male driver was charged with drive while disqualified and stunting with a court date in November.

Police received a complaint of a mischief on Saturday after the victim's parked vehicle had the tail light broken and scratches to the paint. The investigation into this incident continues.

Police received a complaint of a hit and run of a vehicle which had been parked at a local hotel on Saturday. The investigation identified a suspect vehicle, which was later located and the driver found. The driver, a 21-year-old female, was subsequently charged with failing to report an accident forthwith to police.
