The Estevan Police Service has announced more arrests in connection with a recent theft and a fraud.
The arrests stem from an incident on May 24. Members received a complaint of a wallet being stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Estevan’s core area. A credit card from the wallet was used at various businesses in the city after it was taken.
Officers arrested two male youths during the June 2 day shift for their role. The youths will appear in court in early July to answer to the charges.
An 18-year-old Estevan male was previously arrested in connection with the incident. He will also appear in court in July.
In other recent police news, police received a report of a firearm that was stolen from a vehicle during the May 30 day shift. The matter is under investigation.
A semi-truck was reported to be blocking traffic near a local business. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.
Police also received a report of a mischief incident that had occurred on May 25 at a business in south Estevan. This matter is also under investigation.
Members assisted with traffic at the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS). The EPS is asking the public to avoid Spruce Drive around ECS during peak traffic times to ease congestion.
Police received a report of a suspicious male in downtown Estevan. An individual was spoken to and the matter was resolved.
Officers responded to a hit-and-run incident in the St. Joseph’s Hospital parking lot during the May 30 night shift. The matter remains under investigation.
Police responded to a call of a suspicious substance, thought to be drugs, at a local residence. The substance was tested and was not an illegal drug.
Officers received a request for patrols on Wellock Road during the May 31 day shift, as there were reports of motorists speeding.
Members received a report of a female threatening several people in the city. The matter is under investigation.
Police received a report of a hit-and-run in north Estevan. This matter is also under investigation.
Officers were asked to check on a dog that seemed in distress during the May 31 night shift. The dog was in an outdoor run that provided shelter. The owner was advised of the request to check on the dog’s safety.
A call was received regarding a theft of fuel from a vehicle that was parked in front of a residence.
A vehicle stop occurred in the south end of the city. One of the occupants was on conditions not to be in the presence of the other occupants. An 18-year-old man was charged for breaching his release conditions and will appear in court on July 4.
Police were advised of suspicious activity in a vehicle. Police arrived and found two males inside the vehicle. One of the occupants was found to be violating his court-imposed curfew. The 21-year-old man was charged and will appear in court on June 13.
Estevan Fire Rescue Service members and police were dispatched to an apartment building for a fire alarm. The alarm appeared to be caused by an electrical problem.
Officers are looking into a complaint of a male videotaping others near the Leisure Centre during the June 1 day shift. The matter is ongoing.
Police received a call about a possible impaired driver during the June 1 night shift. The caller was able to give detailed directions to police and the vehicle was located. The driver was checked and it turned out the vehicle had some defective equipment. The driver was given a roadside screening test, which he passed. He was warned about his driving actions and is required to repair the vehicle’s problems before it can be driven again.
Members are looking into a mischief complaint at the Estevan Shoppers Mall that occurred during the June 2 day shift.
Officers responded to a suspicious person complaint in the core area. The investigation is still ongoing.
Police responded to several complaints throughout the city during the June 2 night shift. One complaint was of a male who had been assaulted and was wandering in a building. Police attended and took him into custody. Members are looking into the matter further.
Members then received a call about a couple of suspicious males in the city’s south end. Police patrolled the area but were unable to locate the individuals in question.
Police also received several driving complaints regarding vehicles speeding throughout the city. One ticket was issued to a driver who was exceeding the speed limit by 43 kilometres per hour, which carries a $312 fine.
Members responded to a complaint about the smell of marijuana emanating from a residence during the June 3 night shift. The homeowner was spoken to and the matter is still under investigation.
Officers responded to a local restaurant after receiving a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line around noon on June 4. A 52-year-old male was arrested for refusing to provide a breath sample and for impaired driving. His vehicle was seized for 60 days and his license was suspended. He will appear in court on Aug. 15 to answer to the charges.
Police were dispatched to a domestic dispute. A 17-year-old male youth was arrested for uttering threats to cause bodily harm. He was released on conditions and will also appear in court on Aug. 15.
Members are investigating a criminal harassment complaint from a fast food restaurant. A customer reportedly yelled at staff on a number of occasions. The matter is still under investigation.
Police issued a 72-hour driving suspension to a male driver during the June 4 night shift, after a traffic stop on the east side of the city.
Officers responded to a complaint of loud music and fireworks being set off in west Estevan. The homeowner was warned of the noise bylaw.
Police were called to keep the peace during the June 5 night shift, after receiving a complaint from the city’s core. A disagreement over a furniture purchase was the cause of the disturbance. The matter is still under investigation.
Members are looking into a complaint of a possible criminal harassment that was reported that night.
Police assisted the Carlyle RCMP in arresting a 56-year-old Estevan man, on charges of impaired driving and driving while over .08, stemming from an incident in 2015. The male will appear in court in Carlyle in July.
