Weyburn police received a call to assist in keeping the peace at a local medical facility on Sunday. During police attempts to mediate and de-escalate the situation, two members of the Weyburn Police Service were assaulted. They were not injured. As a result the individual was taken into custody and is now facing charges of assaulting a police officer.
Police reported that Halloween was extremely quiet. Although a lot of children were seen out and about, there were no incidents reported directly related to Halloween.
Weyburn police received a report colloquially referred to as elder abuse on Nov. 2. While most cases of elder abuse do not rise to the level of a crime having been committed, they are nonetheless very concerning to everyone involved, including the police. While a particular set of facts may not rise to the level of a criminal occurrence it is often helpful for the police to be made aware of elder abuse as it can point to other non-criminal issues that perhaps the police can assist in or otherwise become involved in.
Many of these incidents revolve around money and property, but some may also rise to the level of providing inadequate care or not providing appropriate care. The police feel that the incidents of elder abuse are grossly underreported.
The Weyburn police’s CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop at about 9:50 pm on Oct. 31. The 55-year-old male driver was found to be driving with a suspended licence, and was charged accordingly.
Weyburn police are investigating a report of a 30-year-old male assaulting a 23-year-old male on Nov. 1. There were no injuries and the matter is still under investigation. Both people were known to each other.
City police were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in progress between a 20-year-old male and a 19-year-old female at about 4:40 a.m. on Saturday. The matter was mediated at the time, however later that day the turmoil again boiled over requiring police involvement again. Again police attempted to mediate the incident. No further reports were received.
Weyburn police received a report of two people having an argument in a downtown area parking lot at about 12:50 a.m. on Sunday. Prior to arrival one of the combatants had left. A 29-year-old female was quickly located and found to be under the influence of alcohol. She was turned over to a sober adult with no further need for police involvement.
