Weyburn Police Services is reminding motorists to not leave keys in unattended vehicles and to lock doors following a vehicle theft on August 10.
Police received a report of a vehicle being stolen from the Weyburn Junior High parking lot. The vehicle had been parked, unlocked, with the keys in it. The vehicle was found later undamaged in the downtown area.
The incident remains under investigation.
Police responded to a two vehicle accident on the 1700 block of East Avenue on August 8 where one vehicle had backed into another vehicle which was illegally parked. No charges were laid in this incident.
Weyburn police attended to the 100 Block 3rd Street southeast regarding a motor vehicle accident. The accident occurred when the one vehicle had backed into another vehicle. The driver, a 77-year-old male, was charged and given a ticket for backing a vehicle when unsafe.
A 34-year-old man was arrested for mischief and released with two charges under the noise bylaw following a noise complaint on August 8. Police attended the residence on 1st Avenue Southwest for a noise complaint, charged the resident and a few hours later re-attended the residence.
Weyburn police received a call of a semi trailer unit striking a light standard on Government Road and 1st Avenue northeast. The semi was stopped and the driver, a 59-year-old male was interviewed. The accident remains under investigation.
Police received a report of a theft from motor vehicle which had been parked overnight in Metheral Bay on August 6. A number of small items were reported stolen. Motorists are reminded to lock your vehicle when unattended and not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
Police received a report of an individual who had been bitten by a dog on August 6. The victim was treated in hospital for a minor bite wound. The subsequent investigation located the owner of the dog, who was charged under the bylaw for allowing a dog to run at large.
On August 5, while on patrol in the early morning, an officer located a vehicle rolled in the ditch at the intersection of 16th Street and Highway 39. Upon checking the scene it was found the driver had fled. Members were able to locate the driver, a 22-year-old male, later that morning. As a result of the investigation the driver was charged with driving without due care and attention, operating an unregistered vehicle and failure to report an accident.
The Weyburn Police Service received reports of an erratic driver on 6th Street on August 5. The suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 57-year-old male, showed signs of impairment. The driver was taken to the police station for a breath analysis and as a result he was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. The accused was later released from custody and will appear in court in later this month.
On August 3, while on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and as a result of the investigation the driver, a 30-year-old male, was arrested and charged with driving while prohibited. He was released from custody and will be appearing in court in September.
On August 3rd, police responded to River Park campground after receiving a report of a group of youths who had stayed at a site overnight and then left, stealing firewood, and not paying. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
