During the past week the Weyburn Police Service has received 11 reports of the same telephone scam from the CRA. They continue to ask residents to be diligent in whom they give out personal information to and whom they send money to. Virtually any legitimate government agency or business will not make a phone call demanding payment until a letter has been first sent out.
Recently, the police arrested two people in relation to break and enter offences at the Weyburn Beaver’s property. There were two male youth arrested, one is 15-years-old and the other is 16-years-old. They were charged with multiple offences.
Police received a report of a bicycle that had been stolen from a residence in the 1600 Block of Warren Avenue on August 16. Stolen is a NOVUS Free Agent BMX bicycle, light blue in colour and with black handlebars. Anyone with information on this incident, or the location of the bicycle is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police or Crime Stoppers.
Police were dispatched to a local business where a person was believed to be actively engaged in a theft of property from the store on August 16. Despite not being able to locate the individual at the time he was located later in the day and arrested. A 36-year-old male has been charged with theft under $5000 and was also dealt with on a related arrest warrant from the Moose Jaw Police Service as well as the Regina Police Service. Police members believe that a Tweet circulated by the police service with the suspect description played an important role in the apprehension of the person.
The Weyburn Police received a call to assist EMS with a 39-year-old male who had harmed himself on August 17. The person was taken to the Weyburn General Hospital where he was later admitted to a medical facility.
Police were dispatched to a residence on August 17, at about 3:15 a.m., in the 200 Block of Mergens Street to deal with an assault. The suspect had fled prior to police arrival. The investigation revealed that there had been an altercation between a 29-year-old female and a 31-year-old female. Due to the victim not wishing to pursue the matter the investigation has been concluded.
Police responded to a vehicle collision involving a light standard on August 17, at about 4:30 p.m. The offending vehicle and driver were located and a 44-year-old male was issued a ticket.
The Weyburn Police are investigating a report of mischief to a vehicle parked on Mergens Street that occurred on August 17. It appears that a window was shot out with a BB gun. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police or to call Crime Stoppers.
Police members have received numerous complaints again of unknown persons rummaging through unlocked parked vehicles. This is just a reminder to lock vehicles and remove all valuables. Police members routinely hear from people that they would sooner leave their vehicles unlocked than risk a broken window or other damage to the vehicle to gain entry. The fact is these crimes are ones of opportunity. If a vehicle is locked, the person(s) simply moves on down the street to locate an unlocked easy target.
The Weyburn police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Douglas Road at 13th Street on August 18, at about 9:45 a.m. The investigation revealed that a vehicle travelling east on Douglas Road failed to stop for the stop sign resulting in a collision with a northbound vehicle. There were minor injuries treated at the scene. The 63-year-old male driver has been charged with failing to stop at the stop sign.
Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 Block of Park Avenue to a report of a domestic dispute on August 18, at about 10:25 p.m. A 20-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene without incident. The accused was remanded in custody and is facing a charge of breach of conditions. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Coteau Avenue at 1st Street on August 19, at about 11:25 a.m. An 81-year-old female driver was issued a ticket for proceeding before safe from the stop sign.
The Weyburn Police received a report of a vehicle driver posting snap chats while driving. They remind everyone that driving is a task that demands 100 per cent of your attention and any such activity can constitute distracted driving.
The police are investigating a report of a theft of a vehicle from the 1800 Block of Coteau Avenue that occurred on August 20. The vehicle has been recovered. Anyone with information on this incident can contact the Weyburn Police or Crime Stoppers.
