Police remind skateboarders to stay out of downtown area

During the reporting period, police received 119 calls for service.

*On April 1, police attended a call involving a 53-year-old local male who was found to be in possession of a cat when he was prohibited by the law not to possess any animals. Police attended to speak with the male about the incident and while there, the male assaulted the officer while in execution of his duty. Subsequently, the male was charged with assault and disobeying a Provincial Court order not to possess or have the custody or control of any animal.

*On April 4, police received a complaint about a youth skateboarding on private property. He was cautioned and advised that he could be charged $50 under city bylaw 99-2014 (22.1):

"1-1 No person shall ride a skateboard on any private property, including any area, and its passageways, that is intended for the parking of vehicles, without first obtaining permission to do so from the owner of the property.

1-2 No person shall ride a skateboard on any street or sidewalk in the downtown area, to wit: between Government Road and 4th street and between Railway Avenue and Coteau Avenue."

*On April 5, police attended the 200 block of First Avenue northeast in regard to a female yelling from and driving a motor vehicle. A traffic stop revealed a 21-year-old female was intoxicated. Consequently, she was arrested and charged for driving while impaired and over .08

*A 35-year-old Ontario male was arrested and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired and refusal to provide a breath test.

*Police attended the 500 block of Sims Avenue in regard to a domestic dispute between a 22-year-old female and a 22-year-old male. Parties were separated. Alcohol was a factor. The incident resulted in no charges.

*Police received a call to attend the 1700 block of Eaglesham Avenue in regard to a driver slumped over the wheel on a motor vehicle that was stationary in the middle of the street. Police located a 34-year-old intoxicated male. He was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and charged for this and also refusal to provide breath samples.

*Police attended a domestic dispute on the 500 block of Fifth Avenue north, and calmed the situation. Parties involved were offered referrals for counseling and they will be seeking help for their problems.

*On April 7, patrolling officers located a fight on the 10 block of First Avenue south. As a result, two local males in their twenties were charged under Weyburn Public Fighting bylaw 2006-3084.

*Police attended a call for service on south hill where an intoxicated female was removed from a residence. She was lodge in cells for her own safety.
