Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of November 4 to 10:
During the reporting period, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 82 calls for service, including a number of calls for minor vehicle accidents. Police remind motorists to use extra caution while driving, keeping in mind the winter road conditions.
*On November 12, emergency services attended to a single vehicle snowmobile accident, which occurred on the outskirts on the east side of Weyburn. The driver, a 39-year-old man, hit a drainage ditch and was ejected from the snow machine. He was transported to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
*Police would like to remind snowmobile enthusiasts that it is illegal to ride in the city limits. Use extreme caution at all times, as objects in your path can be covered with fresh snow and be difficult to see. Always drive at a safe speed considering the weather conditions.
*On November 10, police attended the Mac's convenience store after receiving a several reports of a female causing a disturbance by acting irrational and throwing items around in the store. Police arrested a 26-year-old female, who was charged for being intoxicated in public. She was lodged in cells until sober.
*Police later received a report of a person failing to report an accident. The complainant advised that a parked semi truck was hit by a dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee being driven by a young Caucasian male. Although this individual did originally stop, he did not supply his name or information. The investigation is ongoing.
*Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 1000 block of Park Avenue. Road conditions were a factor in the cause of this accident and damage was minimal.
*On November 9, police responded to a breaking and entering in the 100 block of First Street northeast, after receiving reports of a male breaking in through a front door. Police located and arrested a 43-year-old male, who was charged with break and enter. He will be appearing in court later this month.
*On November 8, police began investigating an act of vandalism, which occurred near Railway Avenue and Government Road. A vehicle that had been parked in a nearby lot was keyed, damaging the hood of the vehicle. Police have no suspects at this time.
*Police received a tip that a wanted male had been seen in Weyburn. As a result of a short investigation, a 28-year-old Weyburn male was located and arrested for outstanding break and enter warrants from Alberta. This individual was later remanded and was escorted by RCMP to Provost, AB to face charges.
*On November 7, both the police and the fire departments responded to the southeast area of the city, after receiving reports of a male going house-to-house telling the occupants to get out as there was a radiation leak in the area. The report of radiation leak turned out to be false and a 28-year-old male was later interviewed in regard to this incident. The investigation did not result in charges.
*On November 6, police received a report concerning mischief that had occurred sometime overnight. The complainants' vehicle had been parked in the 500 block Fifth Avenue north. During the night, someone had broken the driver's window of the vehicle. Police have no suspects at this time.
*On November 5, police responded to a disturbance in a downtown bar and removed two patrons who were causing problems. Both males left without further incident.
*On November 4, police received a report of a hit and run in the 500 block of McGillivray Drive. Witnesses observed a smaller dark-coloured truck hit a parked truck and then leave the scene. Police have no suspects at this time and the investigation continues.
*Police were called to break up a fight at a downtown bar. They separated two individuals who were having a disagreement and escorted them out of the establishment.
*Police were called to the Mac's convenience store where an intoxicated patron was causing a disturbance. A male in his twenties was arrested, charged for being intoxicated in a public place and lodged in cells until he was sober.
*Police received a report of a stolen truck, which had been parked on the 1000 block of Park Avenue. A suspect has been identified and the investigation continues.
*Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of Eleventh Street. The accident was as a result of one vehicle colliding with the other after losing control due to the icy road conditions. There were no injuries, but there were extensive damages.
*Police responded to a mischief/arson complaint in the 700 block of Coteau Avenue when a truck was reported to be on fire. The fire was extinguished with minor damage. This investigation is ongoing.
