Estevan Police Service personnel along with RCMP emergency response team members, explosives disposal unit, major crimes and crisis negotiators from Regina as well as general investigation and criminal investigations members from Estevan and Regina descended on a residence on the north side of the city Tuesday night.
Acting on a tip received from the public, the special policing units, which also included a police service dog, executed a search warrant on a residence and removed three people from the home.
The teams then located a device that was determined to be non-functioning and posed no risk to the public. Follow-up investigation was not required said Detective Jay Pierson of the EPS Criminal Investigations Division.
“It turned out to be non-functioning, but precautions had to be taken at the time. Fortunately there was no risk to public safety once it was determined what the items were and where they were,” said Sergeant Murray Cowan.
