The Weyburn Police Service is warning residents about a new type of fraud related to the recent flooding.

"The recent flood disaster in Weyburn has seen members of the community come together as a team to minimize the effects of the influx of water. The Weyburn Police Service would like to extend our appreciation to all those who volunteer their time and effort to assist in that regard," said Inspector Russ Chartrand.

"Unfortunately, it can also be a time when people choose to prey on the emotions and generosity of other citizens."

Chartrand explained that Weyburn Police were recently made aware of a scam involving individuals soliciting door to door, as well as by phone, asking for relief money for flood victims. He warned that these are not legitimate organizations and that residents should not give money or information to anyone soliciting in the city without first verifying the legitimacy of such solicitation.

Anyone with information regarding this scam is asked to call the Weyburn Police Service at 848-3250.
