Weyburn’s population, along with a number of towns, villages and RMs in the region, saw an increase in the 2016 census which was released last week.
Saskatchewan’s population overall increased by 6.3 per cent to 1,098,352 from the 2011 census, an increase of 64,971 people. The population of Canada increased to 35,151,728, which is a five-per-cent increase from 2011.
All Saskatchewan cities posted an increase, with the cities as a group increasing by 9.9 per cent, while towns increased by 2.7 per cent, villages and resort villages increased by 0.5 per cent, and Rural Municipalities increased by 1.1 per cent.
Weyburn’s population is 10,870, according to the 2016 census, an increase from 10,484 in 2011.
For towns in the Weyburn region, the following are the census numbers: Bienfait is 762, down from 780 in the 2011 census; Francis is 217, up from 176; Midale has 604 residents, up from 562; Milestone is 699, up from 618; Ogema is 403, up from 368; Radville has 807 people, which is down from 860 in 2011; Stoughton’s population is 649, down from 694; and Yellow Grass is 478, up from 440 in 2011.
For villages, Ceylon has 111 people, up from 99; Creelman is at 113, virtually the same as 115 in 2011; Fillmore has 311 people, up from 255; Forget has 55 people, up from 35; Halbrite increased to 119 from 108; Lake Alma has 30 people, which is the same as in 2011; Lang has 189 people, down slightly from 200; McTaggart has 121, down slightly from 125; Minton has 55 people, down from 60; Pangman is at 232, up from 214; Sedley is also up at 358 from 337; Torquay has 255, up from 236; and Tribune increased to 45 people from 25 in 2011.
Some of the RMs in the region saw increases as well.
The RM of Brokenshell has 312 people, up from 308; Cambria has 309, up from 304; Cymri increased to 549 from 524; Fillmore decreased slightly to 223 from 255; Francis is at 674, a slight change from 676; Griffin increased to 438 from 398; the RM of Lake Alma is at 242, down slightly from 250; Laurier has 296 people, down from 321; Lomond saw a slight change to 296 from 304; Norton also saw a slight decline to 233 from 259; Scott increased to 195 from 176; Souris Valley has 249, up from 240; Surprise Valley has 217, up from 193; Tecumseh saw a slight change to 271 from 270; Wellington has 371, up from 356; and the RM of Weyburn has 1,064, up from 1,048.
