Principal addresses SE Cornerstone board

Principal of Haig School, Arlene Dobson, was selected as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals for 2014.

Principal of Haig School, Arlene Dobson, was selected as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals for 2014.

As part of the award, principals engaged in executive leadership training on management and leadership at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto, and were inspired by presentations from renowned and accomplished speakers and authors.

Dobson, who provided a vivid account of the five day leadership training, was honoured to be among such a remarkable group of Canadian principals and was grateful for the opportunity to network and build professional relationships with like-minded colleagues.

"I am extremely honoured and incredibly proud to have been selected as one of Canada's Outstanding Principals and I owe many thanks to our school division for this incredible opportunity, and for all the support over the last 13 years that has helped me achieve many successes," said Dobson.

In the Canada's Outstanding Principals program, principals are nominated by their colleagues and community members in every province and territory. They are chosen using the following criteria: characteristics of outstanding principals, evidence of partnerships with parents and the community, letters of support and personal illustrations of successful change and innovation that resulted in improved student achievement.
