The City of Estevan is without a manager for its public works department.

Peter Kennedy, who had been with the city for about 15 months, has stepped down for personal reasons. His last day was on Friday.

Kennedy started working for the city in June 2014, after spending the previous seven years in Calgary.

City manager Amber Smale said Kennedy made a lot of positive changes during his tenure.

“He really worked to clean up the processes and stuff, out at public works, to get the crews back on track with some of the work that hasn’t been done over the years,” said Smale.

Kennedy has a degree in engineering, and Smale noted that with his background, he brought a lot of valuable information to the city, including with their construction projects.

It’s not known if the city will find a replacement for Kennedy. Smale said the public works job is under review as part of their ongoing corporate reorganization.

Smale will examine the position, and so the job opening won’t be posted at this time.

There won’t be an interim public works manager until Smale’s review is finished.
