The Weyburn RCMP detachment is seeking the public's help inlocating theindividuals responsible for a number of vandalism and theftincidents over the past few months. These incidents are causing unnecessary expense to the residents in the RM of Lomond, making landowners reluctant to grant permission to huntersto hunt on their property and putting any bystanders, landowners and motorists in the area at risk.
The offences include the theft of a "Road Closed" barricade sign from the Village of Colgate access road, RM of Lomond. The theft occurred sometime overnight on Aug. 24. The sign had to be replaced by the RM of Lomond.
Secondly was the theft of three "Road Construction" signs from the 705 grid road approximately one mile north of the Village of Colgate in the RM of Lomond. The theft occurred sometime overnight on Aug. 24.
A mischief to property occurred when someone shot up a "yield" sign post. The incident occurred between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26, at the intersection of the 705 grid north of the Village of Colgate. Suspect(s) had shot up a "yield" sign post with a 12-gauge shotgun. The sign pole was rendered useless and needed to be replaced by the RM of Lomond.
Another mischief to property occurred when culprits shot up a "Slow - watch for children" road sign. The incident occurred between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26. Suspect(s) had shot up the sign and post again with a shotgun, and the sign and post were both rendered useless and needed to be replaced by the RM of Lomond. This particular sign was located off of 705 grid approximately two miles west of Highway 35 and one mile north, and only 600-700 metres from a residence.
The cost to replace and/or repair these signs can be as high as $150. Additionally, when traffic signs are removed or damaged they put motorists at risk. The RCMP is working closely with the RM of Lomond to find the individuals responsible for these acts.
"The RM of Lomond is asking anyone with information about these crimes to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers," said Michael Porte, foreman for the RM of Lomond. "These acts of vandalism not only increase costs for the RM and our ratepayers, they put our residents and motorists at risk."
Weyburn RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact the Weyburn RCMP Detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,000 for information which leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this offence or any other serious crime.
