The Estevan RCMP is investigating a pair of recent incidents.

The first was a theft from an oilfield site that occurred during the Nov. 21 night shift. Unknown individuals cut locks on a consultant’s trailer at a remote oilfield servicing site east of Benson. They stole numerous items, including several large power cables and a cell phone booster system.

Police are reminding the public that with the recent downturn in the oil industry, break and enters and property thefts are becoming more common. They urge the public to take a little extra time to ensure their property and premises are properly secured and protected.

Alarm systems and surveillance cameras are two of the more popular options for increasing security at remote oilfield locations and residences.

The other occurred between Dec. 4 and 6. A home was broken into on the 300 block of Aldridge Street in Bienfait. The occupant of the home found his front door booted in, and the kitchen rummaged through.

It appears the kitchen was used for cooking, and food was stolen. Other areas of the home also had signs of being rummaged through and being used.

The RCMP reminds the public to lock their homes, vehicles and belongings when not in use.

Anyone with information on these incidents or any other offence is asked to contact the local RCMP at 306-637-4400, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
