The Weyburn RCMP Detachment is seeking the public's assistance in locating the individuals responsible for a number of vandalism and theft incidents over the past few months in the RM of Lomond.
Sometime during the early morning hours of August 24, the theft of a "Road Closed" barricade sign occurred from the Village of Colgate access road. The sign had to be replaced by the RM of Lomond.
On the same night, three "Road Construction" signs were stolen from the 705 grid road approximately 1 mile north of the Village of Colgate.
At the intersection of the 705 grid north of the Village of Colgate, suspect(s) had shot up a "Yield" sign post with a 12 gauge shotgun. The sign pole was rendered useless and needed to be replaced by the RM of Lomond. The incident occurred between September 20 and September 26.
These incidents are causing unnecessary expense to the residents in the RM of Lomond. The cost to replace and/or repair these signs can be as high as $150.
Additionally, when traffic signs are removed or damaged they put motorists at risk. The RCMP is working closely with the RM of Lomond to find the individuals responsible for these acts.
"The RM of Lomond is asking anyone with information about these crimes to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers," said Michael Porte, RM of Lomond foreman. "These acts of vandalism not only increase costs for the RM and our rate payers; they put our residents and motorists at risk."
The incidents are also making landowners reluctant to grant permission to hunters to hunt on their property and putting any bystanders, landowners and motorists in the area at risk.
