New blue recycling bins have been distributed to households throughout Weyburn, and the pickup service for recycling is set to start in the first week of July by Regens Disposal.
A brochure was included with each bin which included a list of what can and cannot be recycled, along with the pickup schedule, using the same service areas as garbage pickup.
Pickup of recycling will be every second week, and will start with area 1 (South Hill and the residential area west of Government Road North) on Tuesday, July 4, followed by area 2 (Riverwood and residential area immediately east of Government Road and King Street) on Thursday, July 6.
Area 3, around Assiniboia Park School area, will be picked up on Friday, July 7, followed by area 4 (between Fifth and 16th Streets) on Tuesday, July 11, and area 5 (the residential areas east of 16th Street) on Friday, July 14.
Items that can be recycled include paper and flattened cardboard boxes, with paper items including newspapers, flyers, telephone books, magazines, catalogues, paperback books and hardcover with covers and spines removed, gift paper, brown paper bags, paper egg cartons.
Containers and glass which is clean and rinsed can also be recycled, including returnable bottles and cans, along with rinsed milk jugs and cartons, rinsed tin cans, and household plastic containers and bottles that have the recycling arrows with a number (from 1 through 7).
Items which cannot be recycled include bagged material, household waste, Styrofoam, wax or food-contaminated cardboard or paper plates, yard waste, medical waste or diapers, hazardous materials, ashes or dirt, construction material, automotive parts or oil, propane tanks, electrical cords, plastic toys or clear plastic containers that don’t have recycling arrows.
