The Student Representative Council (SRC) at the Weyburn Comprehensive is reviving a traditional fundraiser in cooperation with the Canadian Cancer Society.
The 2017 Relay For Life will be held at the WCS Track on Saturday, June 3, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The profits from this fundraiser will be going towards cancer research.
This fun-filled day will consist of a carnival, games, a canteen, prizes to win, and non-stop entertainment.
The event starts with the opening ceremonies at 3 p.m., followed by a performance by the Comp combined senior choir. Performers providing entertainment will include The 7th Avenue, Alfredo, Emma Von Hagen, the STARS Show Choir, the theatre group from “High School Musical” and DJ Brian Lee.
A luminary ceremony will be held at 9:30 p.m., and activities will include a point toss, life-size tic-tac-toe, a giant game of Twister, bean-bag toss, spikeball, Frisbee toss, a life-sized Jenga game and big-time Yahtzee, along with lap challenges, face-painting and a fish pond.
There will be many school and community teams, with most doing fundraising events for the Relay. Even if residents are not on a team, the SRC asks that as many community members as possible attend to support the teams and the Relay event.
Residents can follow the Facebook page, “2017 Weyburn Relay for Life”, to be the first to know more information about the event. To donate, contact the WCS main office.
The organizers are asking that registered teams be set up by 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Teams are welcome to come at 1 p.m. to begin setting up.
