Rider visits Arcola

The Arcola School’s grade three and four students were particularly pleased to welcome Dan Clark with the Saskatchewan Roughriders to their school.

Visiting on Wednesday, March 21, Arcola School was a sea of green to welcome the Roughrider… aside from a lone staff member dressed in red, good heartedly supporting their team – the Calgary Stampeders.

Participation in Rider Reading Month included showing the Riders on Facebook and Twitter who have been “riderizing” their reading. The initiative is one that encourages students to pick up a book and read – literacy is the backbone of education.

This is not the first year Judy Naylen’s class received the visit either, in 2015 – during the first year for the event – they earned a visit from Paul Woldu.

Participation in this year’s Rider Reading Month included 10,436 students across the province in 376 classrooms, at 178 participating schools, across 85 towns.

While visiting Arcola School the School Representative Council organized a fun relay for students pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 to participate in with a high-five from Clark as the relay end.

Clark also stopped by Naylen’s classroom where the students had an opportunity to ask questions and were particularly delighted to be read a story by Clark.

“My students’ favourite part was when Dan Clark read Peanut Butter and Cupcake with cool voices for each character,” Naylen explained. “They also thought it was super neat that the little Pre-K were involved.”

“I appreciate the Roughriders’ organization for their support of reading in our province. It’s so nice to see leaders stepping up to show that reading is cool!”
