Sask. COVID-19 update: 10 deaths, 208 new cases and 405 recoveries over the past two days

There are 208 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Dec. 28 and 29, bringing the provincial total to date to 15,022 cases. On Dec. 28, there were 94 new cases. The following day, there were 114 new cases.

For Dec. 28 and 29, 10 Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.  One death in the 20-29 age group was reported in the Saskatoon zone. Two deaths in the 60-69 age group were reported in the North Central and Saskatoon zones. One death in the 70-79 age group was reported in the Regina zone.

Six new deaths in the age group 80+ were reported, with two in the Regina zone and single cases in the Far North West, North West, North Central and Central East zones.

Fifteen of the 208 new cases are in the South East region. Two are in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan.

There are also five new cases in Zone 3, to the west of Estevan’s zone, and eight are in Zone 1, which is the northwest corner of the southeast region.

Five cases in Zone 4 are considered active. There are 101 active cases in the southeast.

A total of 459 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the southeast since mid-March.

The other new cases are located in the Far North West (4), Far North East (36), North West (13), North Central (33), North East (8), Saskatoon (39), Central West (4), Central East (7), Regina (39) and South West (1) regions. Nine new cases have pending residence information.

Of the 15,022 cases, 3,191 cases are considered active. 

Another 405 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 11,680. Four of the recoveries are from the southeast.

As of December 28, 2,371 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have been provided to health care workers in Regina as part of the initial pilot and in Saskatoon as part of Phase 1.

There are 176 people in hospital in Saskatchewan with COVID-19, including 13 from the southeast region.

A total of 151 deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported to date. Eleven are from the southeast region.

For Dec. 28 and 29, 2,438 COVID-19 tests were processed in Saskatchewan (Dec. 28 had 1,239 and Dec. 29 had 1,199). A total of 112 tests have been administered in the southeast in the past two days.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 154 (12.7 new cases per 100,000 population).
