Sask. COVID-19 update: 238 new cases, including five in Estevan’s zone

There are 238 new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan to report on Jan. 3, bringing the provincial total to 16,083 cases. Fourteen new cases are in the southeast region, including five in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan.

There are 238 new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan to report on Jan. 3, bringing the provincial total to 16,083 cases.

Fourteen new cases are in the southeast region, including five in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan. Seven new cases are in Zone 3, to the west of Zone 4, and two are in Zone 1, to the northwest of Zone 4.

There are 11 active cases in Zone 4, the highest number in several weeks, and 153 active cases in the southeast region.

A total of 524 cases have been diagnosed in the southeast since mid-March.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (17), Far North East (39), North West (23), North Central (50), North East (two), Saskatoon (42), Central West (one), Central East (six), Regina (20), South West (one) and South Central (13) regions.

Ten new cases have pending residence information.

There are no deaths to report for January 3.

As of January 3, a total of 3,866 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have been provided to health care workers in Regina as part of the initial pilot and in Saskatoon as part of Phase 1. With the arrival of 4,900 doses of Moderna vaccine, the Far North Central and Far North West regions will start vaccinating priority populations the week of January 4.

Another 109 people are now listed as recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 13,084. A total of 2,841 cases are considered active.

One hundred and fifty-two people are in hospital. One hundred and fourteen people are receiving inpatient care: eight in the North West; 29 in the North Central; 35 in Saskatoon; two in the Central East; 36 in Regina; one in the South West; two in the South central; and one in the South East zones. The number of people in hospital in the South East is down three from Jan. 2.

Thirty-eight people are in intensive care: three in the North West; five in the North Central; 11 in Saskatoon; one in Central East; 15 in Regina; two in the South West; and one in the South Central zones.

There were 2,103 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Jan. 2, including 150 in the southeast.
