Second train/semi collision at Queen Street crossing

The driver of a semi was transported to hospital with minor injuries after a train collided with his trailer at the railway crossing at Queen Street and Highway 39 December 11 around 4 p.m.

A train collided with a semi trailer hauling gravel, at the Queen Street railway crossing at Highway 39 on December 11 around 4 p.m. The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries and there were no injuries to train personnel. Weyburn fire crews directed traffic while the accident was being cleared.


The driver of a semi was transported to hospital with minor injuries after a train collided with his trailer at the railway crossing at Queen Street and Highway 39 December 11 around 4 p.m.


The semi trailer, hauling gravel was southbound on Queen Street when it was struck by an eastbound train, said Constable Hughie Gilchrist, of Weyburn Police Services.


"The train struck the trailer and the truck broke away," he said. "The trailer was taken another half mile down the track."


There were no injuries to the train personnel.


Weyburn firefighters directed traffic on Highway 39 into the evening hours while crews cleared the accident.


Canadian Pacific Railway is continuing their investigation.


This is the second accident at the Queen Street crossing involving a semi trailer and a train in three weeks. A similar accident occurred on November 18.
