Amber Smale is out as Estevan’s city manager.
Mayor Roy Ludwig announced on Tuesday morning that Smale had been let go. He said council wanted to move in a different direction.
“Amber had good ideas,” Ludwig told the Mercury. “At the end of the day, we just decided we needed a different focus and a different direction.”
Smale had been with the city for a little more than 20 months. She was hired in January of last year to replace Jim Puffalt, who was dismissed without cause in October 2013 after nearly 12 years in the role.
City treasurer Jeff Ward will now serve as the acting city manager until a replacement for Smale is found.
This week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
