Captains Blake McNaughton and Regan Wickett of the world-famous RCAF Snowbirds team first buzzed over the city of Estevan in their famed Tutor jets which are featured in their air acrobatic show, then landed at the Estevan Regional Airport for a site selection and appraisal meeting on Thursday morning.
The team was welcomed by local media as well as city clerk Judy Pilloud, Fire Rescue Services Chief Dale Feser and Richard Reetz, airport manager.
The duo, an advance team that will visit about half the sites where the Snowbirds will be performing this year, said they’ll be producing their full air show here on July 26, for some re-opening celebrations at the airport following the refurbishment of the local runways.
The appearance will also coincide with the Saskatchewan Summer Games that are being hosted by Estevan this summer.
The complete Snowbird team will stay overnight in Estevan following their show before making their way to Osh Kosh, Wisconsin for their huge air show the next day.
Following their Estevan visit on March 10, Wickett and McNaughton flew to Portage La Prairie to do a similar site check there.
Estevan is one of only two air shows the Snowbirds will be producing in Saskatchewan this year.
Next week's edition of the Mercury will have more information on this story.
