St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary members handed over a cheque in the amount of $15,000 to the hospital’s executive director, Greg Hoffort during the auxiliary’s annual spring tea and bake sale held in the hospital’s auditorium on May 4.
The money is going to be directed toward the purchase of a new operating room table, a baby warmer unit and an operating room cart for dental surgeries.
“The value for these items is well over $100,000,” said the auxiliary’s co-chairwoman Sharon Heinz.
“The infant care centre and warmer we had was quite old and was getting suspect and they are used for purposes other than just keeping the baby warm,” said Hoffort, commenting on the newest technology that is brought into play when the new items are purchased and installed.
“The new surgery table is a Cadillac model that incorporates the latest technology. So again, the auxiliary has come through, they are as vital to us as any other sector in the hospital,” said Hoffort.
St. Joseph’s Hospital board chairman Don Kindopp said, “the words thank you are just two simple one, but they do instill in you the feelings we have towards the auxiliary.”
Kindopp and Hoffort said the new equipment keeps St. Joe’s moving forward as a well equipped and safe centre for the delivery of healthcare.
The hospital and auxiliary receive support from the local United Way team who also had representatives Christa Morhart and Lynn Trobert on hand for the presentation and to serve tea and strawberry shortcake to the come-and-go afternoon visitors.
