Education Minister Russ Marchuk joined students, dignitaries and representatives from the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division in Weyburn to celebrate the official grand opening of the school with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Phase one of this project which finished in 2007, saw renovations of the school. Now, with phase two complete, the school this year welcomes all prior students from St. Dominic Savio School for the first time.
Both phases of construction saw renovations and upgrades to the facility, including six new relocatable classrooms, the addition of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten space, as well as the completion of a performing arts area and fully equipped stage in the gymnasium.
The Government of Saskatchewan has contributed around $3.9 million toward this project.
"Investment into the education facilities of our students and early learners has the ability to positively impact their future success and the future success of Saskatchewan," Marchuk said. "This project demonstrates a commitment to the improvement of education outcomes for students in Weyburn and will no doubt benefit students and the community alike."
"We are proud of our new facility and the positive environment that helps us build our Catholic Learning Community, from pre-kindergarten to Grade 9," Holy Family School Division Board Chair Bruno Tuchscherer said.
The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $500 million since November 2007 to move forward 41 major school capital projects and approximately 860 additional smaller school capital projects across the province. This represents a record high investment in school infrastructure in less than a five year period.
