Weyburn's postal workers will conduct their 17th annual food drive to benefit the Salvation Army Food Bank on Saturday, September 29 at 9:00 a.m.
Residents should already have received their 'Stamp Out Hunger' postcard in the mail, which is to be used to indicate all donations for pickup.
"We are asking people to staple the postcard clearly to a bag of non-perishables, or storable perishables, and leave it on their front step outside their house by nine in the morning," said Lieutenant Melissa Mailman, Pastor of the Salvation Army Church.
The most needed contributions are nut-free healthy school snacks. Donations of juice boxes, fruit cups, fruit snacks are always helpful, as are jams, peanut butter and cereal.
"I'm really looking for some school supplies," said Mailman, noting that she wants to assist community members in need of school supplies with the quality of supplies required by schools.
Those wishing to donate extra supplies can include them with the pick-up items on Saturday.
Mailman emphasized that Weyburn's Canada Post employees are completely volunteering their time and energy to round up these donated foods and school supplies.
To donate perishables, such fresh produce, phone ahead to 842-2280 to arrange that there is space in the Food Bank's refrigerator.
Anyone with a post office box is asked to please drop donations off at the Weyburn Post office during regular business hours.
