The state of emergency in the City of Estevan has been lifted as of 1 p.m. today (July 13).

Mayor Roy Ludwig in consultation with emergency measures co-ordinator Helen Fornwald, lifted the order following a brief special council meeting.

The Flood Relief Centre, staffed by the Red Cross, located in the Civic Auditorium at 811 Souris Avenue will remain open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. for the remainder of the week. Pending further activity, that centre is expected to close by 7 p.m. on Friday (July 15).

The Red Cross continues to distribute clean up kits and Sask. Public Health information packages.

Gas safety information is being delivered by SaskEnergy while SaskPower is providing information regarding electrical safety items. Both Crown corporations will advise on re-starting household and business equipment that may have been shutdown as a result of the Sunday storm.

Mental health support professionals are also being made available to assist those who require additional assistance during this stressful recovery period.

As noted in an earlier release today, Fourth Avenue south has been re-opened.

If large garbage bins and garbage trailers are being parked on streets, the City is asking that they not be placed in such a way as to impede emergency vehicles who may be dispatched to their neighbourhoods.

Those wishing to make financial donations to ease the recovery efforts are urged to contact the Red Cross.

Fornwald noted that her team is currently forming a list of local volunteers who are interesting in helping others with their clean up and restoration efforts.

Landfill fees for flood victims are being waived until the end of this coming weekend. The flood waters did not compromise the local landfill, which remains fully operational.

With the passing of the council motion to apply for Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) funds, citizens are reminded that applications will be made available at the end of the week for those who have been directly affected by the storm.

The public information contact phone number is 306-634-1808.
