The 16th annual "Swing for Scholarships" Golf Tournament, held September 12 at the Weyburn Golf Club, was a sold?out success! Over $20,000 was raised for Southeast College scholarships, which will be matched by the Ministry of Advanced Education's Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship (SIOS) Program, which results in over $40,000 for students taking full?time post?secondary studies at Southeast College in 2014?15.

"Southeast College understands the need for innovative and flexible programming and is really growing and supporting this region," Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty said. "The programs here are a great match for the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship Program and we are proud to be able to support post?secondary learning in this way."

"The College is very aware and attuned to the immediate and growth needs of the communities we serve," said Southeast College President & CEO Dion McGrath. "We are so pleased to see so much support reflected back to us from our community through the Swing for Scholarship Tournaments."

The Government of Saskatchewan created the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program for post?secondary students to match funds raised by public post?secondary institutions through the private sector and community?based partners.

"This is an ideal and very simple way for local organizations and donors to participate in meaningful giving," said Dave Harazny, Manager of College Advancement for Southeast College. "The contributions are automatically doubled thanks to the SIOS program and more students can be helped from that single donation."

In addition to the golf tournament proceeds, the College receives private scholarship donations from local individuals, organizations, and community groups. These private scholarship donations, amounting to over $26,000 this year, are also matched through SIOS.
