Who can resist the smell of freshly popped popcorn?

It’s here! The perfect combination of sweet and salty popcorn is bagged and ready for you to enjoy. Made fresh in Kenosee with wholesome ingredients and no preservatives, it’s a snack you can feel good about.

The Madill family moved from Vancouver Island to Kenosee Lake last October. Dave was taking his first detachment with the RCMP in Carlyle.

“I stay home with the kids and I kind of want to do something on the side with them, and thought, well kettle corn sounds fun,” explains wife Emily.

And so began their business, Kenosee Kettle Corn, a little over a week ago.

Eager entrepreneurs are her two children – three-year-old Amy and four-year-old Riley.

“It's their job to put the labels on the bags,” explains Emily. “They wanted to help with the family business.”

“We have a giant kettle corn machine and we're popping out sweet and salty snacks,” says Emily. “It's sweet and salty popcorn.”

“The 80-quart pot makes four bags at a time so we get on a roll and make quite a few bags,” explains Emily.

Their product is selling at the Co-op Grocery Store and Gas Bar in Carlyle.

They plan to expand to some of the farmers markets when they can.

“The kids love it ... they get free popcorn out of it,” says Emily, who adds, “they love having their own job and they're pretty excited about being a part of the business. They're really excited about seeing it in the stores although the girls are adamant about keeping some popcorn for themselves.”

“We really like Kenosee Lake,” says Emily. “We have the lake and the trees so it kind of feels like home.”

“All winter long it's been hard to make friends but now that the weather is nicer, there are more people outdoors and we're seeing more people,” says Emily, as they get set for a busy summer.

They say they have dreams to expand but right now they offer only sweet and salty, although they may branch out into different flavors in the future.

Until then visit them at the Carlyle Garage Sale on Saturday at the playground behind the Pharmasave, where they’ll be selling their popcorn.
