The inaugural Estevan Spooky Civic was a huge success with approximately 1,000 people in attendance.

Many of the attendees were impressed with the amount of effort the various volunteers put into the event. The doors opened at 5:30 p.m for “little scares” and didn’t close until 10 p.m.

People of all ages enjoyed the event with the “big scares” coming out at 8 p.m. intended for more mature attendees.

Erin Wilson, who is the program manger for the city and helped organize the event, said, “It was our first attempt at the Spooky Civic and it went off better than we anticipated. We are already looking forward to doing this again.”

The event was a big success for donations because it brought in buckets of non-perishable food items and other monetary gifts. Wilson describing the success of the influx of donations said, “It really exceeded any of our expectations not only just with the amount of people, but certainly with the amount of donations that were received.”

Wilson was not sure how successful the big scares would be.  The “big scares” also turned out to be a huge success.

“From the screams we kept hearing it seemed to be successful,” said Wilson.

The Spooky Civic had 20 volunteers and it was a very successful event.

“We are just really happy and proud of this event and we are really grateful for all the support that we received from the community,” said Wilson.

Many of the attendees brought flashlights to guide their way around the civic center. It was very dark in the building but it was intended to be that way. In the portion of the Civic that has a dirt floor the volunteers did an excellent job at making a realistic looking graveyard.

The Civic Auditorium is celebrating its 60th year in Estevan and Wilson has intent on making the Spooky Civic a yearly Halloween event.
